I have been laid up with a broken ankle, but I have not been out of the loop. I have been following all of the latest events and below is my take:
On BHO’s Cabinet appointments:
• Hillary Clinton: As immoral and corrupt as President and Senator Clinton are, I can sleep well at night knowing that a true American is the head of the State Department. Say what you want about the Clintons, but at the end of the day, they will do anything to secure personal power, but they will NOT do so at the expense of the Country (at least on purpose). Also, Hillary will likely stand up to BHO if his policy ideas will hurt the country. She is not afraid to speak her mind or pursue her own agenda, for better or worse.
• Retired General Shinseki: I have no problem with his appointment to Secretary of Veterans Affairs. He is a wounded warrior himself and therefore has personal experience to help him improve the VA and the lives of our Wounded Warriors.
• Tom Daschle: I really have no opinion, but from what I have seen and heard, both sides of the aisle are happy and comfortable with his appointment. He himself is also very happy with the appointment because that is his “dream post”. My one reservation is that since he is a Democrat, he may want to socialize our health care system. In the near term, that is not feasible due to the current economic situation; but, in the medium and long term, there is a higher risk of Mr. Daschle endorsing or pushing such a program. We shall wait and see.
On the Auto Industry:
• The bottom line is that the Auto Industry is broken and in trouble and if it fails, it may be catastrophic for the workers and the satellite industries and their workers. Either way, the economy will recover, but we shall not let the Auto Industry fail. Granted, this has been coming for a long time, and the Auto Industry should have acted a LONG time ago. I don’t think that Government is the answer, nor have I turned Democrat, but SOMEONE needs to hold these companies’ feet to the fire. Unfortunately, the government seems to be the only group that is willing to do so. This is what I think should be done:
o Give the auto makers a “bridge loan” so that there is still an American Auto Industry to save, but have many strings attached such as:
Mandatory restructuring
Limits on executive compensation
Slash labour costs by cutting or shrinking unsustainable pension and benefit programs and reducing wages to the level of the foreign auto makers who have factories here in America. Unions must be willing to make these concessions.
Mandatory modernization
Implement streamlining programs such as AIRSPEED and/or Lean Six Sigma to cut manufacturing costs
Some kind of oversight and accountability. Unfortunately, that may mean Government oversight unless the BIG 3 are willing to police themselves effectively. If oversight is provided by the Government, it must only be for the purpose of making sure that changes are actually being made and that those changes are effective. The Government MUST NOT take over decision making for the BIG 3.
On the situation in Washington State:
• To the atheists: If Christmas and other displays of religious devotion offend you and give you feelings that we are “pushing our religious beliefs down your throat,” I hate to break it to you but your offensive denouncement of our beliefs makes us Christians feel the same way. You are NOT tolerant and NOT open minded. You are hypocrites. You are guilty of the same crimes of which you accuse Christians. If you truly possessed the reason that you claim to possess, then you would see that, but you do not. This is the last straw. Christians will NOT sit idly by and let the Godless minority silence the Christian majority.
• We must contact Governor Gregoire and tell her that she needs to move that awful display to another part of the State House, away from any Christmas displays. Go to billoreilly.com to get her contact info.

Egotism, Hubris, And Megalomania AKA An Obama Speech -- Part 1
Looking at the photos from last night's Obama worship service, I can't help but think of the tired, old Hitler comparisons. After 70 years, they still apply.
"To Chairman Dean and my great friend Dick Durbin; and to all my fellow citizens of this great nation.
With profound gratitude and great humility, I accept your nomination for presidency of the United States."
Humility??? My eye. How can he say he's humble when he constructs a mock White House to accept his nomination? The answer is, he can't.
"Let me express my thanks to the historic slate of candidates who accompanied me on this journey, and especially the one who traveled the farthest -- a champion for working Americans and an inspiration to my daughters and yours -- Hillary Rodham Clinton. To President Bill Clinton, who made last night the case for change as only he can make it; to Ted Kennedy, who embodies the spirit of service; and to the next vice president of the United States, Joe Biden, I thank you. I am grateful to finish this journey with one of the finest statesmen of our time, a man at ease with everyone from world leaders to the conductors on the Amtrak train he still takes home every night."
Go ahead and thank the Clintons. Thank them for helping you hand over the election to John McCain. Ted Kennedy embodies the spirit of service??? Maybe to hookers. Ted Kennedy embodies the spirit of Moonbattery. He also embodies an unrepentant heart for the death of Mary Jo Kopeckne. No, Ted, you will not ever live that one down. It will haunt you even after you're gone. It is part of your legacy. Joe Biden one of the finest statesmen of our time??? He has been in the Senate for 36 years and is known for what??? He is as accomplished as BHO, but with more time doing it -- absolutely nothing. He is known for opening his mouth when he shouldn't, being a Senator, and running for President -- just like Barack Obama. They're a perfect fit. Ok, I'll give credit to Joe for commuting home to be with his family every night. That is commendable. But it still does not qualify one for the second-highest office in the land. You've gotta do better than that.
"To the love of my life, our next first lady, Michelle Obama, and to Malia and Sasha -- I love you so much, and I'm so proud of you."
I hope and pray that BHO does not become POTUS, and that the Ice Queen does not become First Lady. Does he really love his kids, or does he use them as political props like he does everyone else???
"Four years ago, I stood before you and told you my story -- of the brief union between a young man from Kenya and a young woman from Kansas who weren't well off or well-known, but shared a belief that in America, their son could achieve whatever he put his mind to."
He hasn't told us much about his story. He has left us with many more questions than answers, and it will cost him this election.

Yes. Hard work and sacrifice. Not hand outs and affirmative action. One American family??? Not on his life. We ARE NOT a socialist country, but a democracy.

The American Dream has been threatened by BHO and his Leftist ilk.

And it's not Bush's fault. The broken politics in Washington are a direct result of Democrats refusing to pass any legislation propsed by a Republican and/or endorsed by President Bush. It's all part of a plan to make Bush look ineffective by Congress obstructing the legislative process -- and it's not working. Congress has a lower approval rating than the President. As far as cars you can't afford to drive, unless it is strictly because of gas prices, you should have thought of that before you bought it. As far as credit card bills you can't afford to pay, why did you buy things that you can't afford?? It's called personal responsibility.
"America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this."
America is better when it is not led by Moonbats.
"This country is more decent than one where a woman in Ohio, on the brink of retirement, finds herself one illness away from disaster after a lifetime of hard work."
This is a sad story, but how is it the government's fault???
"We're a better country than one where a man in Indiana has to pack up the equipment he's worked on for 20 years and watch it shipped off to China, and then chokes up as he explains how he felt like a failure when he went home to tell his family the news."
Again a sad story. Outsourcing is damaging America's economy, but GWB is not to blame. Blame all of those big-government loving, business-hating, tax-and-spend politicians (mostly Democrats) who created the taxes and regulations that made outsourcing overseas more attractive to American companies.
"We are more compassionate than a government that lets veterans sleep on our streets and families slide into poverty; that sits on its hands while a major American city drowns before our eyes."
Yes, the government should take care of its veterans. After all, it is our veterans who worked for the government by serving this country and the government should return the favor. But, with that said, it is not the government's responsibility to take care of people (non-government civilians. The government should only be responsible for the care of its employees and their families. Government's job is to govern -- that means create and pass laws and enforce the rule of law. That's it. It is the people's job to take care of each other.
"Tonight, I say to the people of America, to Democrats and Republicans and independents across this great land -- enough! This moment -- this election -- is our chance to keep, in the 21st century, the American promise alive. Because next week, in Minnesota, the same party that brought you two terms of George Bush and Dick Cheney will ask this country for a third. And we are here because we love this country too much to let the next four years look just like the last eight. On November 4, we must stand up and say: 'Eight is enough.'"
"Eight is Enough." Great catch-phrase, but very misleading. John McCain is no George W. Bush. In fact, McCain disagrees with Bush more than he agrees with him. They just so happen to belong to the same political party. Just as not all Democrats are Leftist moonbats, not all Republicans are lock-step with George W. Bush.
"Now let there be no doubt. The Republican nominee, John McCain, has worn the uniform of our country with bravery and distinction, and for that we owe him our gratitude and our respect. And next week, we'll also hear about those occasions when he's broken with his party as evidence that he can deliver the change that we need."
Enough said. What more evidence does this guy need??

I doubt that Bush was right 90% of the time, but also doubt that he was wrong 90% of the time, either. It's probably something like 50-50 or 60-40. I certainly don't want a chance of a BHO presidency. I would rather elect someone with whom I agree 60% of the time, than some with whom I disagree 100% of the time.
"The truth is, on issue after issue that would make a difference in your lives -- on health care and education and the economy -- Sen. McCain has been anything but independent. He said that our economy has made "great progress" under this president. He said that the fundamentals of the economy are strong. And when one of his chief advisers -- the man who wrote his economic plan -- was talking about the anxieties that Americans are feeling, he said that we were just suffering from a "mental recession," and that we've become, and I quote, 'a nation of whiners.'"
We have become a nation of whiners. We have become spoiled brats. We have lost our sense of personal responsibility. That's a good chunk of the reason why we have the economic troubles we do -- because people bought things that they can't afford and now they are facing the consequences and want someone else to bail them out. These are the consequences of prosperity. American companies and consumers became greedy. Banks approved loans and credit for people who could not afford to pay them, and people bought homes, vehicles, and merchandise that they knew they could not afford. Maybe the government regulators should have noticed, but that points to the failure of government regulation more than to the failure of the President. The economy is sound -- it has not collapsed. It's weakened, but it is still sound.
"A nation of whiners? Tell that to the proud autoworkers at a Michigan plant who, after they found out it was closing, kept showing up every day and working as hard as ever, because they knew there were people who counted on the brakes that they made. Tell that to the military families who shoulder their burdens silently as they watch their loved ones leave for their third or fourth or fifth tour of duty. These are not whiners. They work hard and they give back and they keep going without complaint. These are the Americans I know."
This example renders the point moot (probably the purpose), but what about the rest of the country???
"Now, I don't believe that Sen. McCain doesn't care what's going on in the lives of Americans. I just think he doesn't know. Why else would he define middle-class as someone making under $5 million a year? How else could he propose hundreds of billions in tax breaks for big corporations and oil companies but not one penny of tax relief to more than 100 million Americans? How else could he offer a health care plan that would actually tax people's benefits, or an education plan that would do nothing to help families pay for college, or a plan that would privatize Social Security and gamble your retirement?"
Ok, maybe McCain is out of touch when it comes to economics. So is Obama. BHO exemplified that when he complained about the price of arugula at Whole Foods. Most Americans don't buy arugula nor do they shop at Whole Foods. Elitists like BHO buy arugula and shop at Whole Foods (and whiners complain about it). Obama revealed just how out of touch with "real Americans" and the economy he really is with his arugula comment. John McCain supports corporate tax breaks in order to keep American businesses in America. The US corporate tax structure is one reason why many companies outsource their labor to Third World countries -- it's cheaper. It is very expensive to do business in America. Lower corporate taxes make doing business in America less expensive. John McCain has readily admitted that economics is his weak point. At least he acknowledges his weaknesses instead of hiding them. That's why he has advisors who bring him back to reality and educate him. The President does not have to know everything, but he should know something -- and he should not pretend to know everything. I would rather gamble my retirement than let Congress out-right steal it.
"It's not because John McCain doesn't care. It's because John McCain doesn't get it."
Which he readily admits, hence the purpose of advisors.
"For over two decades, he's subscribed to that old, discredited Republican philosophy -- give more and more to those with the most and hope that prosperity trickles down to everyone else. In Washington, they call this the Ownership Society, but what it really means is that you're on your own. Out of work? Tough luck. You're on your own. No health care? The market will fix it. You're on your own. Born into poverty? Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps -- even if you don't have boots. You are on your own."
You don't prosper by receiving handouts. Didn't your wife's story teach you anything??? Her dad didn't receive handouts. He went to work even when he was sick with MS so he could provide for his family. Our country was not founded by getting handouts. Our country has not prospered because of handouts. Before the Great Depression, people resisted handouts because they felt ashamed. No one wanted a handout -- even when desperately needed -- because that would show the world that that person could not provide for their family. Welfare is a crutch for a lot of people. It is an excuse to not have to get a job. When you are forced to get a job and provide for your family it fosters a sense of pride and provides an incentive to do better. Life is not fair.
"Well it's time for them to own their failure. It's time for us to change America. And that's why I'm running for president of the United States."
And it's time for the Democrats to own up to their failure, as well.
"You see, we Democrats have a very different measure of what constitutes progress in this country."
Yes they do. It's called Socialism.
"We measure progress by how many people can find a job that pays the mortgage; whether you can put a little extra money away at the end of each month so you can someday watch your child receive her college diploma. We measure progress in the 23 million new jobs that were created when Bill Clinton was president -- when the average American family saw its income go up $7,500 instead of go down $2,000 like it has under George Bush."
Whatever. Democrats always increase taxes -- for everyone -- and the economy started to slide under Clinton. Clinton also contributed to 9/11 by letting bin Laden get away when he had the chance to capture him. Nine-eleven accelerated the economy's downturn, hence the reason why GWB is erroneously blamed for all of our current economic woes.
"We measure the strength of our economy not by the number of billionaires we have or the profits of the Fortune 500, but by whether someone with a good idea can take a risk and start a new business, or whether the waitress who lives on tips can take a day off and look after a sick kid without losing her job -- an economy that honors the dignity of work."
Democrats are not necessarily the best friends of small businesses. OK, the waitress does deserve to take sick days when she needs them without risking her job. Democrats honor the dignity of work??? By what?? Increasing handouts to welfare deadbeats???
"The fundamentals we use to measure economic strength are whether we are living up to that fundamental promise that has made this country great -- a promise that is the only reason I am standing here tonight."
And he says John McCain doesn't have a clue when it comes to the economy??? Ask any economist what the economic fundamentals are, and I guarantee he or she is not going to tell him "The fundamentals we use to measure economic strength are whether we are living up to that fundamental promise that has made this country great." And, if he told an economist that statement, he or she would probably laugh in his face.
"Because in the faces of those young veterans who come back from Iraq and Afghanistan, I see my grandfather, who signed up after Pearl Harbor, marched in Patton's Army, and was rewarded by a grateful nation with the chance to go to college on the GI Bill."
Is there verifiable evidence of those statements???
"In the face of that young student who sleeps just three hours before working the night shift, I think about my mom, who raised my sister and me on her own while she worked and earned her degree; who once turned to food stamps but was still able to send us to the best schools in the country with the help of student loans and scholarships."
Does he support handouts because his mother relied on them and it keeps her memory alive??? Or does he support them because people actually need them (some people actually have a legitimate need for them)?? Or does he support them because it makes him look good and compassionate to his party and to voters??
"When I listen to another worker tell me that his factory has shut down, I remember all those men and women on the South Side of Chicago I stood by and fought for two decades ago after the local steel plant closed."
No. He was lining his pockets via the Chicago political machine.

And to thank his grandmother for all of her hard work and scarifice, he calls her a racist. Starting a business is no small feat. There are plenty of programs out there help anyone get started. One just has to look.
"Now, I don't know what kind of lives John McCain thinks that celebrities lead, but this has been mine. These are my heroes. Theirs are the stories that shaped my life. And it is on behalf of them that I intend to win this election and keep our promise alive as president of the United States."
And they are just that, stories. His "biography" is nothing but a tall tale. I'm venturing a guess that his "autobiography" is nothing but fiction and fantasy -- just like his campaign.

The market does reward drive and innovation -- it's called profit -- something that the Socialist Moonbats demonise. Again this whole statement is cribbed from the Republican platform. I guess "Vice Plagiarist" Joe Biden (to quote Ann Coulter) is rubbing off on Oshama. Oshama's pandering to the center-right is blatantly obvious.

And for the sake of our economy, our security and the future of our planet, I will set a clear goal as president: In 10 years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East. We will do this.
What by bankrupting us and starving the rest of the world??? Your plan better include a comprehensive plan that includes drilling in ANWR. BTW genius, a President's max term is 8 years, unless you plan on changing/disregarding that too.
Washington's been talking about our oil addiction for the last 30 years, and by the way John McCain's been there for 26 of them. And in that time, he's said no to higher fuel-efficiency standards for cars, no to investments in renewable energy, no to renewable fuels. And today, we import triple the amount of oil that we had as the day that Sen. McCain took office.
So it's entirely John McCain's fault that we have increased our dependence on foreign oil??? I don't think so. Clinton helped increase our dependence by closing our shores to domestic oil production and prohibiting drilling in ANWR. He probably said no to higher standards hoping that auto-makers would do it themselves -- Republicans don't like Big Government. So far, alternative energy sources on a massive scale are fantasy. Renewable energy is not what it's cracked up to be. Ethanol has contributed to rising food costs -- especially corn. Wind and solar are not efficient for large-scale distribution. Again, as a Republican, John McCain supports investment and innovation by the private sector vice the government. I'm sure that if a smart, reasonable, and realistic comprehensive energy policy crossed John McCain's desk, he would sign it into law.
"Now is the time to end this addiction, and to understand that drilling is a stop-gap measure, not a long-term solution. Not even close."
How does he figure??? Oh wait. Nancy Pelosi is his energy advisor.
"As president, I will tap our natural gas reserves, invest in clean coal technology, and find ways to safely harness nuclear power. It's just that Enviromoonbats have successfully lobbied Congress to halt their construction since the '70s. How will he make cars affordable??? Government handouts in the form of subsidies??? I thought so. How are we going to pay for his $150 Billion investment??? Wait, I got it, more taxes. So much for cutting taxes on the middle class. There's no way he can do both -- increase spending and cut taxes -- without further increasing the national debt. He hasn't told us much about his story. He has left us with many more questions than answers, and it will cost him this election.

The American Dream has been threatened by BHO and his Leftist ilk.

And it's not Bush's fault. The broken politics in Washington are a direct result of Democrats refusing to pass any legislation propsed by a Republican and/or endorsed by President Bush. It's all part of a plan to make Bush look ineffective by Congress obstructing the legislative process -- and it's not working. Congress has a lower approval rating than the President. As far as cars you can't afford to drive, unless it is strictly because of gas prices, you should have thought of that before you bought it. As far as credit card bills you can't afford to pay, why did you buy things that you can't afford?? It's called personal responsibility.

This is a sad story, but how is it the government's fault???

Again a sad story. Outsourcing is damaging America's economy, but GWB is not to blame. Blame all of those big-government loving, business-hating, tax-and-spend politicians (mostly Democrats) who created the taxes and regulations that made outsourcing overseas more attractive to American companies.

Yes, the government should take care of its veterans. After all, it is our veterans who worked for the government by serving this country and the government should return the favor. The government should only be responsible for the care of its employees and their families. Government's job is to govern -- that means create and pass laws and enforce the rule of law. That's it. It is the people's job to take care of each other.

"Eight is Enough." Great catch-phrase, but very misleading. John McCain is no George W. Bush. In fact, McCain disagrees with Bush more than he agrees with him. They just so happen to belong to the same political party. Just as not all Democrats are Leftist moonbats, not all Republicans are lock-step with George W. Bush.

I doubt that Bush was right 90% of the time, but also doubt that he was wrong 90% of the time, either. It's probably something like 50-50 or 60-40. I certainly don't want a chance of a BHO presidency. I would rather elect someone with whom I agree 60% of the time, than some with whom I disagree 100% of the time.

He said that our economy has made "great progress" under this president. He said that the fundamentals of the economy are strong. We have become a nation of whiners. We have become spoiled brats. We have lost our sense of personal responsibility. That's a good chunk of the reason why we have the economic troubles we do -- because people bought things that they can't afford and now they are facing the consequences and want someone else to bail them out. These are the consequences of prosperity. American companies and consumers became greedy. Banks approved loans and credit for people who could not afford to pay them, and people bought homes, vehicles, and merchandise that they knew they could not afford. Maybe the government regulators should have noticed, but that points to the failure of government regulation more than to the failure of the President. The economy is sound -- it has not collapsed. It's weakened, but it is still sound.
"A nation of whiners? Tell that to the proud autoworkers at a Michigan plant who, after they found out it was closing, kept showing up every day and working as hard as ever, because they knew there were people who counted on the brakes that they made. Tell that to the military families who shoulder their burdens silently as they watch their loved ones leave for their third or fourth or fifth tour of duty. These are not whiners. They work hard and they give back and they keep going without complaint. These are the Americans I know."
This example renders the point moot (probably the purpose), but what about the rest of the country???

Ok, maybe McCain is out of touch when it comes to economics. So is Obama. BHO exemplified that when he complained about the price of arugula at Whole Foods. Most Americans don't buy arugula nor do they shop at Whole Foods. Elitists like BHO buy arugula and shop at Whole Foods (and whiners complain about it). Obama revealed just how out of touch with "real Americans" and the economy he really is with his arugula comment. John McCain supports corporate tax breaks in order to keep American businesses in America. The US corporate tax structure is one reason why many companies outsource their labor to Third World countries -- it's cheaper. It is very expensive to do business in America. Lower corporate taxes make doing business in America less expensive. John McCain has readily admitted that economics is his weak point. At least he acknowledges his weaknesses instead of hiding them. That's why he has advisors who bring him back to reality and educate him. The President does not have to know everything, but he should know something -- and he should not pretend to know everything. I would rather gamble my retirement than let Congress out-right steal it.

Which he readily admits, hence the purpose of advisors.

You don't prosper by receiving handouts. Didn't your wife's story teach you anything??? Her dad didn't receive handouts. He went to work even when he was sick with MS so he could provide for his family. Our country was not founded by getting handouts. Our country has not prospered because of handouts. Before the Great Depression, people resisted handouts because they felt ashamed. No one wanted a handout -- even when desperately needed -- because that would show the world that that person could not provide for their family. Welfare is a crutch for a lot of people. It is an excuse to not have to get a job. When you are forced to get a job and provide for your family it fosters a sense of pride and provides an incentive to do better. Life is not fair.

And it's time for the Democrats to own up to their failure, as well.

Whatever. Democrats always increase taxes -- for everyone -- and the economy started to slide under Clinton. Clinton also contributed to 9/11 by letting bin Laden get away when he had the chance to capture him. Nine-eleven accelerated the economy's downturn, hence the reason why GWB is erroneously blamed for all of our current economic woes.

And they are just that, stories. His "biography" is nothing but a tall tale. I'm venturing a guess that his "autobiography" is nothing but fiction and fantasy -- just like his campaign.

Washington's been talking about our oil addiction for the last 30 years, and by the way John McCain's been there for 26 of them. And in that time, he's said no to higher fuel-efficiency standards for cars, no to investments in renewable energy, no to renewable fuels. And today, we import triple the amount of oil that we had as the day that Sen. McCain took office.
So it's entirely John McCain's fault that we have increased our dependence on foreign oil??? I don't think so. Clinton helped increase our dependence by closing our shores to domestic oil production and prohibiting drilling in ANWR. He probably said no to higher standards hoping that auto-makers would do it themselves -- Republicans don't like Big Government. So far, alternative energy sources on a massive scale are fantasy. Renewable energy is not what it's cracked up to be. Ethanol has contributed to rising food costs -- especially corn. Wind and solar are not efficient for large-scale distribution. Again, as a Republican, John McCain supports investment and innovation by the private sector vice the government. I'm sure that if a smart, reasonable, and realistic comprehensive energy policy crossed John McCain's desk, he would sign it into law.

It's just that Enviromoonbats have successfully lobbied Congress to halt their construction since the '70s. How will he make cars affordable??? Government handouts in the form of subsidies??? I thought so. How are we going to pay for his $150 Billion investment??? Wait, I got it, more taxes. So much for cutting taxes on the middle class. There's no way he can do both -- increase spending and cut taxes -- without further increasing the national debt. If he does increase the national debt, his economic policy will be just like Bush and the current Congress, thus completely obliterating his "change" mantra. How does he figure that he will create 5 million new jobs???
America, now is not the time for small plans.

The Vivisection of Hillary Clinton
One thing that I have learned about Hillary Clinton throughout this election season is that she is not the most liberal Senator in the Senate and that she actually possesses some Conservative qualities. She is actually rated 17.2% Conservative by National Journal. I still don't like her, but I have learned to respect her, a little. I do realise that she is still a Clinton and a Democrat and still carries all of the baggage associated thereof. I liked her speech until she inserted her Leftist leanings into it (universal health care, compulsory public education, global warming) and of course when she was throwing her "support" to Barack Obama. Michelle Obama's reactions to Hillary's speech were interesting. Unless Hillary was singing the praises of BHO, MO had a scowl on her face. Chelsea Clinton has inherited her mother's "Evil Death Stare". Hillary's speech sounded more like a stump speech for herself than a support speech or rallying speech for Obama. I'm sure that was all part of Hillary's "Evil Plan". Rush's "Operation Chaos" may still be in full effect -- the Dems may be playing the game and not even realising it. Here is my analysis of Hillary's speech Tuesday night at the DNC:
"I am honored to be here tonight. A proud mother. A proud Democrat. A proud American. And a proud supporter of Barack Obama."
Whatever. She's definitely a proud Democrat. The other sources of pride are yet to be seen.
"My friends, it is time to take back the country we love."
Yes it is. It is time to take back the country and elect John McCain.
"I haven't spent the past 35 years in the trenches advocating for children, campaigning for universal health care, helping parents balance work and family, and fighting for women's rights at home and around the world ... to see another Republican in the White House squander the promise of our country and the hopes of our people."
No, you've spent 35 years (OK, maybe 30, her Goldwater years must count for something) advocating Socialism and trying to usher in the New World Order.
"No way. No how. No McCain."
No way. No how. NObama.
"Barack Obama is my candidate. And he must be our president."
No, Hillary Clinton is your candidate. And she must be your president. John McCain is my candidate and he must be our president.

That quote was priceless. I laughed hysterically. I never knew Hillary had a sense of humour. It made her speech more endurable.

I hate to talk about the emotional side, but this was really touching. When Hillary was talking about Rep. Tubbs Jones, the camera panned to where Bill Clinton, Mervyn Jr. and Mrs. Gwatney were sitting and Bill put his hand on Mervyn's back like a father. Bill seemed genuinely proud of Hillary's speech the whole time. He looked like he had tears in his eyes through most of the speech. I think deep down he really loves his wife, he just needs a pad lock on his zipper and Hillary needs to wear the key around her neck.
"Jobs lost, houses gone, falling wages, rising prices. The Supreme Court in a right-wing headlock and our government in partisan gridlock. The biggest deficit in our nation's history. Money borrowed from the Chinese to buy oil from the Saudis.
Putin and Georgia, Iraq and Iran."
You can't blame Bush for all of this. She is right about partisan gridlock. It's her Dem friends that are the major contributors. We have a Democrat Congress hell-bent on vetoing any and all legislation proposed by a Republican. We have Nancy Pelosi mandating a five week vacation so that Republicans cannot hold an up or down vote on a comprehensive energy policy. The economy started floundering while Clinton was still in office. Bush inherited a mess. I don't agree with all of George W. Bush's policies, but he is not the only one in the government. We have three dysfunctional branches of government. We have a Leftist Supreme Court that would rather legislate from the bench than examine already existing legislation for its Constitutionality.
"I ran for president to renew the promise of America. To rebuild the middle class and sustain the American Dream, to provide the opportunity to work hard and have that work rewarded, to save for college, a home and retirement, to afford the gas and groceries and still have a little left over each month."
She is still running on that platform. She wants to achieve that on the backs of "the rich", but is smart enough not to say it directly. This paragraph sounds more like a Republican platform than a Democrat one. This must be one example of Hillary's "conservatism".
To promote a clean energy economy that will create millions of green collar jobs.
"Green collar"??? How cute.
"To create a health care system that is universal, high quality, and affordable so that parents no longer have to choose between care for themselves or their children or be stuck in dead end jobs simply to keep their insurance."
For as much as Hillary criticises BHO's lofty plans and the absence of any proposed method of paying for them (and rightly so), she needs to explain how we are going to pay for "Hillary Care". Her health care plan is nothing more than socialised medicine and it will not work. We do need to fix the health care system in this country, but socialised medicine IS NOT the answer.
"To create a world class education system and make college affordable again."
The first step in creating a world-class education is to get rid of the teacher unions and stop indoctrinating our children and start educating them again. Parental involvement needs to be welcomed, not feared. Parents need to have the right to choose which school their children attend or if they will attend school. Homeschooling needs to be embraced as a viable option. The federal financial aid system needs to be fixed (i.e. once you live on your own and your parents no longer support you, your parents' income need not apply).
"To fight for an America defined by deep and meaningful equality — from civil rights to labor rights, from women's rights to gay rights, from ending discrimination to promoting unionization to providing help for the most important job there is: caring for our families. To help every child live up to his or her God-given potential."
Equal pay for equal work sounds great as long as it's not just based on gender or race, but based on ability and qualifications. There should not be a need for special rights for fringe minority groups if ability and qualifications are the only standard. Unionisation is not the answer. Unionisation = Socialism. We have passed the time when unions were needed. From the mid 19th to the early 20th centuries corporations took advantage of their workers and unions were needed to make sure workers were treated fairly and had a safe work environment. Now unions are nothing more than power-brokers and lobbying arms of the Democrat party.
"To make America once again a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws."
That means kicking out illegals and stop providing them with shelter (San Francisco and the other so-called "shelter cities"), welfare benefits, food stamps, Medicaid, and free college educations. That means respecting U.S. immigration law and tightening our borders. That means you too, John McCain.
"To bring fiscal sanity back to Washington and make our government an instrument of the public good, not of private plunder."
That means kicking out of Congress all tax-and-spend politicians. I think she got it mixed-up. I think it was supposed to read "making our government an instrument of private good, not of public plunder" Oh wait, that would make her a Republican.
"To restore America's standing in the world, to end the war in Iraq, bring our troops home and honor their service by caring for our veterans."
Restoring our standing as a super-power sound better. As far as ending the war in Iraq, that may become moot no matter who is in the White House. Iraq's PM al-Maliki is talking about forcing us to withdraw all of our troops fairly soon (not sure of exact date). She is right about caring for our veterans, and DoD and the VA are working hard to improve care for our veterans.
"And to join with our allies to confront our shared challenges, from poverty and genocide to terrorism and global warming."
We can join our allies so long as they want to join us. When it comes to NATO, it may as well be the US military and a few NATO soldiers for color. We are the most generous country in the world. Blame all of those big-government loving, business-hating, tax-and-spend politicians (mostly Democrats) who created the taxes and regulations that made outsourcing overseas more attractive to American companies. A windfall profits tax will stifle innovation. It is obscene, on the surface, that while consumers are paying record prices at the pump, oil companies are raking in record profits. But it is also obscene that state and federal governments are making beaucoup bucks from the taxes on that gasoline. Shell Oil is investing in alternative energy -- with its profits. Bill seemed genuinely proud of Hillary's speech the whole time. He looked like he had tears in his eyes through most of the speech. Politics Schmolitics
People need to realise that NO ONE is perfect and that there is NO SUCH THING as the perfect candidate. You can’t please all of the people all of the time. I would definitely rather agree with someone 60% of the time than 0% of the time. Heck, I don’t even agree with my husband 100% of the time, and I love him more than life itself. Here's my diatribe against “protest voters”: A special note to all those self-absorbed whiners who want to vote for a third-party candidate: 1) Voting for a third-party candidate does not make you better than everybody else — you’re not that special. 2) Voting for a third-party candidate makes you self-righteous — you will not get special standing from God if you vote for the Constitution Party, nor will God strike you dead for voting for McCain. 3) Do you remember 1992??? Perot handed the election to Clinton. A vote for a third-party candidate is a vote for Oshama — remember that! Americans are so illiterate when it comes to history. I blame the American method of teaching history and the public schools’ penchant for indoctrinating rather than educating. I rest my case. Another thing that ticks me off about debating with liberals is when they tell me to stop reciting FOX News talking points in my arguments. I don’t even watch that much TV, and here in EU-Land, I don’t get FOX 24/7. I get about half FOX and half CNN. I’m stuck with whatever AFN decides to give me. I get my arguments from over 20 years of paying attention to the news and world events, talking with intelligent people, especially those much older and wiser than myself, and reading. I have an impressive library (much to my hubby’s chagrin — he hates it that I have so many books). I read and I use my brain. I can see the handwriting on the wall. History is repeating itself. If Obambi is Carter-Lite, then MCCain is Reagan-Lite. McCain is the closest we have to the Gipper.
